3-round draft"The wait for the 2019 NFL Draft is almost up http://www.giantslockerroom.com/authentic-evan-engram-jersey , with just seven more sleeps until draft day, and then a few hours (depending on when you wake up) until the New York Giants are on the clock for the first time.Unfortunately we still have a week’s worth of time to fill between now and then. Actual news regarding the draft is, and will be, slowing down as team visits wrap up and front office bigwigs cloister themselves to define their team’s strategy. Mock drafts are being produced at a furious rate to fill time, try to analyze team needs and which prospects might fill those nees. They also try and predict the draft with some degree of accuracy (they’ll fail because the draft gets squirrelly fast, but getting even a couple picks correct scores bragging points). The big problem is that after nearly five months, mock drafts are boring, old, and stale. Draft analysts need to find ways to spice them up and come up with something fresh for their readers, and their own sanity. ESPN’s Mel Kiper and Todd McShay have both released a few generations of mock drafts already this year. This time they are doing a “rotating” three-round mock where they trade off picks. Let’s see which analyst selected what prospects for the Giants.6. New York Giants17. New York Giants (from CLE)37. New York Giants95. New York Giants (from NE via CLE)Raptor’s ThoughtsI am still of the belief that if the Giants believe that Dwayne Haskins can be a franchise quarterback, or even a good starter, he should be the pick if available. The Giants don’t have an answer for quarterback after the 2019 season, and perhaps even FOR the 2019 season if Eli Manning regresses without Odell Beckham Jr. The team has the opportunity and can’t leave the future of their franchise up to chance. Haskins fits Pat Shurmur’s offense well with good accuracy and placement, a strong arm, a quick release Patrick Omameh Jersey , and even quicker mental processing. He isn’t the most mobile quarterback, but he can move well enough to execute play-action passes, rollouts, and bootleg plays. Jonah Williams isn’t the defensive player the Giants need, but he should help finish off the offensive line. He is an excellent technician and has experience at both left and right tackle — an added bonus if the team looks to move on from Nate Solder after this season. I am not a fan of L.J. Collier at this point in the draft. He was productive last year, but he is a limited athlete and as athleticism is of vital importance for success as an NFL pass rusher. There will likely be better prospects available at the top of the second round at either EDGE or interior defensive line (5-technique or 3-technique).Finally, I have to admit that I haven’t watched Corey Ballentine and don’t know much about the FCS corner. Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network profiled him and concluded that he is a fifth-round value and likely special teams contributor who could grow into more, saying:Usually teams get into the fifth or sixth rounds before I have no clue who some of the prospects are, so this is definitely a bit early. So Giants fans, how would you feel about this draft? Could Dawson Knox realize his potential with the Giants?"WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections New York Giants NewsGiants Training Camp 2016Giants vs. Eagles 2015, Week 172019 NFL DraftThe Giants should consider Mississippi tight end Dawson Knox on Day 3New,14commentsCould Dawson Knox realize his potential with the Giants? EDTShareTweetShareShareThe Giants should consider Mississippi tight end Dawson Knox on Day 3Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY SportsHow do the New York Giants view their tight end position? They are paying Rhett Ellison a relatively rich contract to be a blocking tight end, made a point of re-signing Scott Simonson. On the other hand, they have Evan Engram -- who could be one of the NFL’s premier match-up nightmares with better use. While neither Ellison’s contract or Engram’s game might be ideal for Dave Gettleman, tight end is one of the few positions on their roster at which the Giants are solid. Could they look to use that to their advantage and develop an unpolished but promising prospect down their depth chart? If so Womens Dalvin Tomlinson Jersey , they should take a long look at Dawson Knox out of Ole Miss. He has every trait a “complete” starting tight end needs, and is just waiting for some actual development.MeasurablesProsSolid size and frame for the position.Significant athletic upside.Able to play out of multiple positions on the offensive formation.Little wasted motion off the line of scrimmage.Shows strong hands as a receiver.Looks to establish inside leverage as a blocker.ConsAn afterthought in Ole Miss’ offense, and very underdeveloped. Can round off routes.Doesn’t run a full route tree.Needs to be more aggressive as a blocker. Prospect VideoWhat They’re Saying “A high school quarterback, Knox transitioned to tight end at Ole Miss but never became a prominent component of the passing game. With that said, there have been exciting flashes as a receiver although they are few and far between. There is considerable work needed as a route runner for Knox to find succcess catching the football at the next level, not to mention so inconsistency with his hands to clean up. As a blocker, Knox is more developed and has upside both on the move and in-line. Knox is a project, but he can be a worthy one to invest in. He has the ceiling of a quality TE2 and potential starter in time but patience is required.” - Joe Marino (The Draft Network - Scouting Report) Does He Fit The Giants? In a vacuum, Knox does fit the Giants’ offense. Or at least, he should be able to fit their offense eventually. As of right now, Knox is little more than raw upside, potential without production. He was an almost complete afterthought in Mississippi’s offense, and had just 22 targets in his final season. And while Knox shows tangible athletic upside with good speed, strength, and quickness to his game Phil McConkey Jersey , it is almost completely undeveloped. He will need to land in a situation where a team doesn’t need him to contribute right away, but can take the time to teach him how to run a full route tree, catch with consistency, and block with authority. But while he was rarely used, Knox does at least have experience lining up all over the field, from fullback, to in-line tight end, to slot receiver and wide receiver. In light of all of that, the Giants might be a better landing place than most. The team has Evan Engram and Rhett Ellison at the top of their depth chart, which would give them the flexibility to develop Knox without having to depend on him as a contributor early. If he reaches his full potential, the Giants could have a starting caliber tight end to make Rhett Ellison or Scott Simonson expendable for the cost of a Day 3 pick.
